“----AHHHH!!!---“ Elson stopped screaming. His mind raced. One second he’s in the void suffering decompression, the next he’s in a sparsely furnished white-grey room. If this was the afterlife, it sure didn’t feel like it. A door opened to his left. Immediately on guard, he felt helpless standing there without any clothes. He was an engineer and pilot, not a soldier. Hand-to-hand combat was something alien to him. However this male didn’t seem threatening, with scrubs and inattentiveness walk. Without looking up the stranger spoke, “Greetings, I’m Dr. Kurze, do you recall your death?”
Death? Yes, vividly. They were testing their prototype long range FTL drive for the first time. Elson was the head designer for the control system. Something went very, very wrong. The reactor’s coolant system failed, causing a large spike in pressure in heat exchanger. It ruptured, causing catastrophic damage and decompression in the room. The room the team was standing in. “Yes,” Elson replied, “is this hell?”
The doctor began to write on his clip-board, grinning slighty. “Not quite. You’re Dr. Peter Elson, Head engineer of FTL Design in the Triarii Corporation, correct?” Elson nodded. Dr. Kurze continued, saying absently, “That was quite some time ago. Congratulations, by the way. I hear your design was a success despise the minor setback. Get dressed and report to Mr. Armenov, he’ll fill you in.”
