Before he died, Alex was a Lieutenant aboard the ESF Arcadia serving in the Endymion System navy, he had been part of the navy since he joined them at the age of 16. During his time on the Arcadia they where stationed in the asteroid belt around the system hunting pirates. It was during this time that Alex lost his left arm during a battle with pirates, that required his arm to be replaced with a cybernetic replacement. Later on during this time he was given the role of executive officer aboard the Arcadia, though he retained the rank of Lieutenant during the time.
When the Baalites attacked the system, the Arcadia was recalled to assist in the evacuation of the city of New London, during this battle the ship was heavily damaged and most of the crew, including the captain was killed. Effectively putting Lyons in command of the ship. With the ship falling apart and little to no hope of escape themselves, he gave the order to overload the core, hoping the explosion would destroy at least some of the Baalite ships and buy time for the evacuees to escape.
Initial Plans:
Alex's first moves on waking up in this strange new world would be to find out what the hell was going on and then get a frigate of some kind and try and find his place in this new world.
