*Recording Starts*
Day 1 *Garbled static* "Testing, testing...Darn it. Can build a battleship, can't fix a recorder. Argh." *Static fades away, slowly* "There we go." "This is the design and construction log of the soon-to-be frigate LS Bird of Hermes. The aim of the Bird of Hermes project is to create a vessel that can adequately defend and even retaliate against Baalite, pirate or Brotherhood threats; All of which run rampant in our new world." "The primary weapon of the ship will be a casemate mass driver, utilising current beam technology to accelerate a specially shaped HVAP AMC shell up to incredible speeds. Velocitas Eradico. Speed destroys. The mass driver should balance destructive potential, power requirement and rate of fire. At such speeds, the projectile should already be capable of warping even the most advanced armour, ideal for sniping core systems of an enemy ship. As for power requirement, the weapon will be powered by an equally massive power grid, consisting of massive external generators to simplify the cooling process. Rate of fire will be a harder problem; I'm thinking of a revolver-style auto loader, trading a bit of punch for the ability to fire, I shit you not, one round per 1.2 seconds or so. At least, that's what my plans estimate. Going to get the construction drone set up now; I'll be back with more news. Erik Weyland, signing out."

Day 8
*Sound of machinery in background* "Thank god for Cubatom construction technology. Not that I'm religious or anything, but that's not the point. Anyways, work on the Bird of Hermes is going great. I hard wired together the console core and covered it with slabs of carbon nano fibre mesh. It'll help to absorb impact. I've also managed to branch out into the surrounding corridors and install lighting, along with a rudimentary spinal reactor cord to power basic systems. Managed to fit in a emergency system that turns off all regular lights and replaces them with red fluorescents; reduces illumination towards observers. Also started building up some of the electronics we'll need to get the weapons up and running. Not much else to say here, over and out."

Day 10 "Today was quite a surprise. Woke up from a night of good rest to see the frigate gone. Nearly broke out the old swear armoury right then and there in the middle of the mess hall. First thing I did, hopped into the Diablo and fired up the Nav computer. Turns out some lollygagger decided to take out the Bird of Hermes for a joyride. It's a damn military frigate, nuthead, not some random Isanth Delux you can just asteroid race around the curb! Managed to catch the bugger red-handed and confront him about what he'd done. Was quite compliant, really; stepped out of the core, no questions asked. What does piss me off is that he decided a little impromptu painting of the console panels would have been nice; Does he have any idea how hard it is to get aerosols out of the nano tubing? Ugh.
Rant over and out."

Day 16 "Not even finished, and it's already seen it's first share of combat. Caught two Brotherhood scum attacking the hospital ship docked in the Indoc Facility for repairs. I was, unfortunately, unable to save the ship; However, a volley from the Bird of Hermes dropped the shields of one and scared them off before they could do any further damage. Ironically, one of the Brotherhood members was the same person who tried to steal the Bird of Hermes a while ago. Later in the day, I was also able to destroy a Brotherhood drone spying on the Facility. The Bird of Hermes is almost ready for operational combat; However, I do need more engine parts for the thrusters before I can seal the hull.

This is Charon Sevan, Commander of Inferno Naval Force. One of my lieutenants gave me a copy of your engineering report. As it involved the SS. Calypso hospital ship, which the INF intercepted, it is of high importance. The Brotherhood may have been involved in the initial attack on the ship and have made a bold play into the center of Syndicate territory.
Please upload the thermal and electronic signatures of the Brotherhood ships involved. Inferno will be heading up a task force to hunt down the pirates responsible.
Thanks to your action, the Brotherhood has been driven off for the moment. Please see an Inferno representative for a small reward for your responsible involvement.
Charon Sevan, out.

Day 84 (Completion) It's done. Finally, done. Bird of Hermes is fully operational. A massive, overcharged mass driver, a follow-up homing missile and two electron bombardment artillery guns for physical destruction. Engines need some fine tuning, the bunks need to be furnished and the mess hall stocked; But in every sense of the word, Bird of Hermes is now a fully fledged warship. Took it out for a series of finalised combat trials later today, but ran into a Baalite depot fortress. Sustained railgun barrage to down shields, followed by a single breaching shell from the artillery gun and a precision shot straight into the life support and AI mainframe, and the Baalites were wiped out. Beautiful. The frigate came under attack from an assortment of SoB reinforcements, but not once did the Cataphract shield generators fail. They did drop considerably faster than expected, however; It seems that the SoBs have been sending in heavier craft into the Ephebian cluster. And in SS territory, too! Aside from the standard SOBSNUB fighters, new ships named SOBTORPS and SOBSTRIKERS were picked up on radar. The battle put massive strain on the power grid, and even caused a temporary failure before Bird of Hermes jumped out. I'll probably have to address that in a later model. Regardless, I am definitely satisfied with the result; Bird of Hermes is capable of neutralising enemy stations without excessive collateral damage, just as projected in the development goal. The coordinates for the Depot have been stored; probably going to head back there to see if I can reverse-engineer some of the SoB tech, or maybe claim it for my own. Regardless, Project Bird of Hermes has been a resounding success; It's time to move onto Fenrir.

This is Nirobis Trubenor, I am so pleased to hear that the Bird of Hermes is finally completed. Now may i remind you of what i expect in return; in our discussion you said the frigate will guard my station and I will be able to use it to take out baalite structures. I will be looking forward to seeing this frigate in action, Trubenor out.

-Encoded Transmission- Erik Weyland here. It's battle ready, but I might take a little longer to install interiors for the living quarters for crew. Currently the Bird of Hermes only has enough life support for a skeleton crew. It'll be transported to your station soon enough, though. I'd estimate about 3 days (OOC: Tomorrow, it's midnight here) Additionally, Bird of Hermes will be undergoing small upgrades even after it's official completion, so i might have to ship it back and forth once in a while for construction. I keep my end of the deal, though, no worries. ((Also I remember saying that I'd pilot it to destroy the enemy stations around you Plus I need your coords because everything is in a diff. place now after reset.) -End Transmission-
