I really needed to do something with myself besides work all day, eat, then sleep, and stalk this forum like I don't know the meaning of sleep. since I barely see anyone, I can't necessarily play with you guys, so I decided I needed a Project. I decided to build a fort, I think I got a style narrowed down to 3 choices. Japanese. Medieval Europe. 17-18th century style forts/fortresses (Star Forts, Sunken trench forts, etc.) Whatever I pick, I roll with, but obviously, I gotta make it to suit the times, I gotta make it space age. that means glow/highlights, Radar, bits and bobs, metal and so on typical deal. anyone got a suggestion? any and all feedback is appreciated. If I go for Japanese I would be going for what Shogun 2 Total war depicts (probably accurate to the real deals too), higher than the terrain it's built off of, possibly multiple levels of field, with walls layering each segment, like THIS. cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/576706603231006143/55ABE41E0F1F680C79262519FFACB3EC303D322E/1024x576.resizedimageThis thing is massive, and takes an entire planet segment, I have already flattened an area on a terran planet for whatever Style I go with. any suggestions to what I can do with it?

I would go with medieval europe, as from my experience at 3d modelling it's far easier to use a high reaching, contorted, maybe a bit darker style of fortress to make it appear larger to the player instead of the rather open fortress types of the Japanese or 17-18th century.
Of course the 17-18th century would make more "sense" hugging the terrain, but it's far harder to build rooms and such as they were usually below ground and since they made planets into segments it's a bit of a tight squeeze.

I would go with 17-18 century Europe since you do have adequate underground space for rooms and such and a pentagonal shaped fort would look pretty cool.

I'd say out of the three European would be easiest, but. Japanese would be more unique.
Alternatively you could think of doing something more biological, or some sort of massive cannon grid system.

Unique? Just about as unique as the Japanese love for all things german -.- I do not think for Rendii something more....bulky and impressive would work best... gothic maybe

Then you do not watch enough anime or read those strange sci fi mangas. I have to say that I kind of prefer those Sci fi novels from the time of my father they were much deeper than those today... Anyway: Simply using something as Pagoda's is kind of boring....why don't you build a space Tholoi? Or...no idea, something akin to those churches build into the floor....something a bit more unique~

Which reminds me that the Tokyo-3 design (A fortress city, with rail-mounted AA guns, tons of turrets and stuff) would be perfect for a SM Rendii fortress.

Yeah... Sarah kind of indirectly declared that it was a Rendii Fortress, and nailed it. but I never said what the fortress was for. nor will I directly. as I am not even sure just yet.
also doesn't large parts of Tokyo-3 go underground while the fortifications emerge when alerts go out? yeah, not something I can necessarily do. heck if I recall directly Tokyo-3 is actually 2 cities, one above ground the other underground, could be wrong, haven't watched it in well over a year. Rails? I can do that yeah, They wouldn't move but I can pass off the illusion that they could, with a lot of elbow grease. and I do confirm, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday, I will build the city that is supposed to come with this fort.
but guys, remember, this fortress has to contend with Ground incursions and Space incursions. it's fighting from the sky/space and the ground. while trying to be a Rendii Construct AKA look mean and impressive. and not to mention, I would not be ripping off architecture and just throwing Sci Fi bits onto it. I wouldn't be building Pagoda's or anything. If I was to take from the Japanese castles, it would be the Raised Plateaus and multi segmented walls. built into the raised ground. not the architecture. The Architecture itself I have not a clue.. yeah I have the Rendii stations to go off of but those are pre builts. I just renovated their empty husks.
so when it comes to actual buildings I'll need to figure it out.

true, I would probably use the defense grids when I actually build the city parts, The Rendii fortress, while being big, I don't really think it would require the defense grids you described.
