Dear Sir,
Please disregard the slanderous accusations of our mutual acquaintance, one Mr. Nirobis. He and I recently had dealings of a less than amicable nature, and he has vowed to ruin me in the eyes of the community at large. Here, for the record, are the events as they occurred.
Nirobis contracted with me to assist him in transporting an extra ship to his base of operations. Upon my arrival, he did refuse to pay the price I asked for my services. Negotiations futile, as I turned to depart, he fired upon me and slew me in cold blood. I awakened at the rather improbable machine at the captured base station, groggy and confused. When I asked over the radio, Nirobis admitted to the entire thing. Returning to the scene of the crime, he offered me as reparations his new salvager ship. As this was somewhat more than I had intended to ask, I gratefully accepted. When I asked him to transport that quite well appointed ship to the station, he instead betrayed me yet again and traveled by hyperspace to his base.
He had forgotten, however, that I am a man not without resource or ingenuity. Thinking quickly, I traveled by the same means to the location he had ordered me to deliver the very ship he was absconding in. Low and behold, there he was. It was at this point that I collected the promised forfeit, somewhat the worse for wear, and with added interest. It is with regret that I must report severe damage to many of his holdings.
Mr. Nirobis, that traitorous rogue, will try to tell you that I utilized some of your own property to accomplish this righteous vengeance, to whit: the Frigate Bird of Hermes. This is a vile and slanderous calumny. If you look, you will see your fine vessel parked where it has always been, and without a scratch on her. You may in fact be pleased to note the presence of additional materials in the hold, which I was kind enough to deposit while touring the ship in your absence. That information, which I do admit to attempting to sell you, I give you now for free! Your ship has been unsecured or locked by any means. I suggest you take steps to secure your property, lest it be employed without your attention in an emergency.
My thanks for your understanding and support, and I look forward to a closer working relationship in the future.
Sincerely,
Sir Robert Peel
